5555As a dog lover, Jamie Hulit has always had a soft spot for canines in need. She lives in Texas and volunteers with rescue organizations in Austin and nearby places. She also offers her ranch as a temporary home for foster dogs until they find their forever families. But she only had one dog of her own, until she saw Lucky's photo online.
Lucky was a yellow Labrador with a distinctive appearance. His face had a deformity that gave him a permanent frown. He came from a puppy mill in 2012, where the breeder rejected him as an "eyesore" and gave him away to anyone who would take him.
That was the beginning of Lucky's journey through many different homes. He never stayed long with any family. He ended up in Austin, where his last owners kept him outside, tied to a tree. He had no shelter or companionship. When they moved away, they left him behind and called a shelter to pick him up.
A friendly volunteer gave him a wash and a brush at the shelter, and then captured some images of him and uploaded them to the web. That's how Jamie discovered him and felt an instant connection. She knew he was not just another foster dog, he was her dog. She resolved to make him her own and offer him the kindness and support he lacked.
A New Beginning
Jamie's first encounter with Lucky was heartbreaking. The neglected 5-year-old yellow Labrador was severely underweight at 42 pounds and had multiple health problems. He needed neutering, microchipping, flea treatment and heartworm medication, among other things.
But Jamie was not deterred by any of that. She was a volunteer who had some experience and a lot of dedication. She wanted to help Lucky recover his health no matter what. She bestowed a new name upon him as a symbol of his fresh start.
She called him Beaux Tox because his facial deformity made him look like he could use some Botox, which we think is a clever joke! Beaux Tox is a handsome boy with a unique appearance, and Jamie can see the beauty in every shape and form. After spending $8,000 and a week in an oxygen tent, Beaux Tox was gradually improving.
He was no longer in danger of losing his life, which he almost did once. Her only concern was giving him the best opportunity, so she told her vet not to worry about the cost and do everything in his power. Her vet did everything he could and, as a result, Beaux Tox was safe and healthy again.
A Happy Family
Beaux Tox quickly adapted to his new home, where he has lived for more than a year. He enjoys the love and warmth of his mom Jamie and his dog siblings, Riley and Scout. Both Riley and Scout were also rescued by Jamie, who has a big heart for animals in need.
Jamie is proud of Beaux Tox and his unique appearance. When they go for walks, some people ask or laugh about his face. Jamie doesn't mind; she knows that Beaux Tox is a sweet and friendly dog. She also likes to dress him up with cute ties to show off his personality.
Beaux Tox's story is a reminder that all dogs deserve respect and care, regardless of their breed, origin, color, or shape. No dog should be neglected or abused for any reason. Thankfully, there are people like Jamie and volunteers who rescue and help dogs like Beaux Tox. This dog's journey fascinates you and many others like you.
Beaux Tox is more than his facial deformity. He is a beautiful, joyful boy who has found his forever home. If you want to share his story and raise awareness about dogs with birth defects, please do so! People need to know that these dogs are not less worthy of love and happiness than any other good boy!
